It appears that there was once a bend in the spring, but it wasn't there now. There was no similar bend in the other end of the spring for the top notch. Taking a closer look at my spring, I could see that there was a right angle bend in one end of the spring to create a leg that fits into the bottom notch. There is a notch in the bottom cap and also in the top cap that the ends of the spring fit into so that it can transfer torque between the two. The bottom cap is attached to the form that held the spring. Once I had removed the spring, I could clean the swarf from all the parts. This effectively unscrewed the spring from the form. However, I could remove the spring by lifting one edge of it over the lip of the form and then chasing the edge round the form. As the form has been created to hold the spring, it could not slide off. In it's current disassembled state, it just lifts off. The top cap is held in place when the unit is assembled. In my insert, the top could rotate freely and transferred very little torque to the bottom of the device (where the film spool would be). The spring appears to perform the function of buffering shock load in the gear train. Under normal use, turning the top will result in the bottom turning also. It was also covered in brass swarf.īasically the mechanism is a metal form that holds a strong cylindrical spring, with a geared top cap and a bottom cap that engages the take up spool directly. This part broke down further into smaller component pieces. Once the unit is unscrewed into three parts, I focused my attention on the right hand part (in 3rd photo).

See the 2nd and 3rd photos for more details.
Bronica sq b driver#
I used a pair of small pliers and a flat blade screw driver to take the unit apart. What looks like the screw head is attached to the female (nut) part. The unit unscrews in a slightly unusual way. This looked pretty damning as the part that had failed. If you want beautiful tool while doing it, get the hassy. The takeup spool drive unit, as removed, was covered in brass swarf. If you just want to shoot 6圆, you will be happy with the bronica(SQ-Ai). something like that(I personally don't care about flash sync you might). It does not have leaf shutter in the lens like the Hasselblad and Bronica SQ series. The S2a uses cool nikkors that goes deep into the body. Hasselblad is more reliable, it's smaller and have much, much, much, much, much brighter viewfider(costing more than the bronica itself :D). There is a big difference between S2a and the Hasselblad. Both tools will do the job(making cool images). That's why I advised you if the price is a factor, just go with bronica. I scan on Frontier SP-3000 and shooting mainly landscapes. The lenses are the best in the class but I personally don't see difference at the resolutions I scan. Hasselblad repair will most likely cost you the price of a SQ body itself. You can jam the hasselbad if you don't know what you are doing. So if you like longer than 150mm, you will probably need to jump to 501 model :) backs, lesnes(I doubt you will shoot with only 80mm). 500c and 500CM models have small mirror that don't cover 250mm lenses, meaning it will vignette like crazy(in viewfinder only). Acute mate screen for Hasselblad will host you more than the SQ body(around 300 euro).
Bronica sq b upgrade#
You will probably need to upgrade the focusing screen as most of them come with the basic one. And it gets expensive after you get your camera. You must realize that Hasseblad is really expensive. Do I need all of them to make nice squre photos? No! They are nice tools and I'm having fun using them. I use all my 6圆 cameras not because I need to but because I like them. Yesterday I went on a mountain roaming for 3-4 hours shooting Rollei Infrared and Portra 400 with the SQ-AI. Hunted for a while and got myself SQ-AI in really good condition with box and so on. Got some advice to pickup the latest production model(SQ-AI and SQ-B are the latest).

Ofc I returned the camera and then decided to go for a round 3.

It weights the most(or at least I think it is). You can't tell by looking at the pictures, it's something you feel it when you got it. The camera was the biggest 6圆 I have seen in my life. Unfortunately the shutter curtain jammed after the 3rd roll. You can consider TLR if you don't use gradient filters and you will shoot with only standard lens.Īt one point I decided to give it a shot one more time with the bronica but this time while looking for S2 I found a mint Bronica EC. Also got Yashica mat 124 that I'm really happy with. After it failed I bought 500CM with 80mm CF and 250mm and shot it for around 2 years.
